NOTES
Hare Krishna.
This is our humble attempt at setting to music an approximation of the prayer of Narottama Dasa Thakur, using modern Western instrumentation, for the pleasure of the Vaishnavas of the post-modern era.

The lead singer here is Her Grace Mother Subadhra Devi Dasi, who happens to also be my mother-in-law originally from Guyana!
During her short visit with us, we took the opportunity to produce this recording, and the result turned out quite …

"Brahma Samhita" turned out quite well, and so my friend Bhakta Ishmail wanted to do a remix. This song "His Name Is", was born.
NOTES
Back in 2004, while producing the original Brahma Samhita which we released here some months back, Bhakta Ishmail became excited and felt he wanted to rap over the song.

We lived together at that time in Pretoria near the temple, where we rented our studio premises. He was determined, and I did not want to disappoint him. However I really wanted to keep the original Brahma Samhita track true to Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakura's English translation. …

This song aims to get people thinking about the value of the human form of life and how to best utilize the opportunities we have given to us in this life.
NOTES
Most of the world is going on Auto-pilot, with no contemplation on where we are heading as a society. Yet, we have little idea that when we turn our attention inwardly we will find the highest satisfaction by realizing that we are essentially souls eternal, who can become happy in contact with our source, the supreme Lord, in a beautiful unending relationship.

Minimizing the external sensual world of trying to enjoy the body mind and …

    Eight Prayers to the Guru
    by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura

    Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, who appeared in the middle of the seventeenth century, is a great spiritual master in the Krishna conscious chain of gurus and disciples. He says, "One who, with great care and attention, loudly recites this beautiful prayer to the spiritual master during the brahma-muhurta obtains direct service to Krishna, the Lord of Vrindavana, at the time of his death."

Just as a cloud pours water on a forest fire to extinguish it, so the spiritual master delivers the materially afflicted world by extinguishing the blazing fire of material existence. I offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of such a spiritual master, who is an ocean of auspicious qualities.

This is acknowledged in all revealed scriptures and followed by all authorities. Therefore I offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of such a spiritual master, who is a bona fide representative of Sri Hari [Krishna].

Therefore, I should always remember and praise the spiritual master. At least three times a day I should offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of my spiritual master.

NOTES
These are the eight prayers to the spiritual master written by Srila Vishvanatha Chakravarti Thakura, a great saint who lived on this earth between 1638 and 1708. He was a very exalted personality revered by Gaudiya Vaishnavas (devotees) for his deep and lucid commentaries on the Vedic literatures like the Srimad Bhagavatam.
It is amazing how many of these exalted personalities were also such skilled musicians and poets as well. The 26 qualities of the pure devotees resided …

Is this what music celebrations would sound like if Lord Krishna has to descend into South Africa?
NOTES
Around 2004 I found myself feeling a strong African rhythmic section, the Mahamantra fitting into a melody over that rhythm. Perfect I thought. This must be what the celebrations will sound like if Lord Krishna has to visit Africa! This song was the outcome after some weeks developing it in studio. It is now 12 years later that I am able to share it with the world, only because of the digital platform that has made sharing …

  • 05:12 Story Lyrics
    Brahma Samhita

     5.29  I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, the first progenitor who is tending the cows, yielding all desire, in abodes built with spiritual gems, surrounded by millions of purpose trees, always served with great reverence and affection by hundreds of thousands of lakshmis or gopis.
     5.30   I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is adept in playing on His flute, with blooming eyes like lotus petals, with head decked with peacock's feather, with the figure of beauty tinged with the hue of blue clouds, and His unique loveliness charming millions of Cupids.
     5.31  I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, round whose neck is swinging a garland of flowers beautified with the moon-locket, whose two hands are adorned with the flute and jeweled ornaments, who always revels in pastimes of love, whose graceful threefold-bending form of Syamasundara is eternally manifest.
     5.32  I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, whose transcendental form is full of bliss, truth, substantiality and is thus full of the most dazzling splendor. Each of the limbs of that transcendental figure possesses in Himself, the full-fledged functions of all the organs, and eternally sees, maintains and manifests the infinite universes, both spiritual and mundane.

Story

Watch this song on Youtube:

Some time around 2012, I was contemplating and feeling grateful for my good fortune.  Knowing it was simply God's mercy upon me, I spontaneously began writing this song.  Till now I did not really share it with the world, but with the introduction of Gaura Records on-line, I am now ready to offer it as a free download. Thanks for downloading, and I hope the song inspires you too as I felt while writing it.

Lyrics

I wanna thank you Lord

Chorus:

I wanna thank you Lord,
For the chance to serve you,
The only thing I ask of you is to never let me slip away from you.
Forgive me for my offenses,
Cause I am only your child;
Praying for devotion,
Freedom from lust, anger and greed.

Verse:

So I place my life into your hands,
In a mood of surrender eternally.
Cause my faith lies in you,
As you carry me home,
In the mood of your faithful followers.

Refrain:

Calling out your holy name is not hard to do
And it pleases you;
Forgetting all my joy and pain let me give my love to you;
Let me understand my Lord when tribulations come my way,
It is the only way to turn to you sincerely calling out your name…

Repeat chorus

I wanna thank you Lord,
For the chance to serve you,
The only thing I ask of you is to never let me slip away from you.
Forgive me for my offenses,
Cause I am only your child;
Praying for devotion,
Freedom from lust, anger and greed.
