Brahma Samhita

Brahma Samhita, Open video in Youtube

In 2002, I decided to try my hand at creating a melody for one of the songs of the Acharyas, but I wanted to take the challenge of  creating a melody for the English translation of the bhajan or hymn, but without changing the words to suit the melody.  I did not know how difficult this would be!

This then is the exact English translation of the Brahma Samhita Texts 5.29-5.32 by Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur in English, which we have put to melody.  Because it was translated from Sanskrit, it did not have rhyming or metrically suitable lines in English for creating a melody, so this was the most challenging track I have ever produced, and I think will ever be, but then Krishna knows his plans for me!
I hope this rendition will please the devotees of the Lord.  Note that the lyrics are an exact translation. By the mercy of the Lord and of Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur, somehow we did not have to change any of the English to fit the melody. Somehow we managed to build melody to fit the words instead.  I still cannot believe this was possible, at least for me.  I took around 3 months producing this song.

We also hope to produce an album following this release, from the same period of writing this song.  Stay tuned for that, and in the meantime do enjoy this release.

5.29  I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, the first progenitor who is tending the cows, yielding all desire, in abodes built with spiritual gems, surrounded by millions of purpose trees, always served with great reverence and affection by hundreds of thousands of lakshmis or gopis.
5.30   I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is adept in playing on His flute, with blooming eyes like lotus petals, with head decked with peacock's feather, with the figure of beauty tinged with the hue of blue clouds, and His unique loveliness charming millions of Cupids.
5.31  I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, round whose neck is swinging a garland of flowers beautified with the moon-locket, whose two hands are adorned with the flute and jeweled ornaments, who always revels in pastimes of love, whose graceful threefold-bending form of Syamasundara is eternally manifest.
5.32  I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, whose transcendental form is full of bliss, truth, substantiality and is thus full of the most dazzling splendor. Each of the limbs of that transcendental figure possesses in Himself, the full-fledged functions of all the organs, and eternally sees, maintains and manifests the infinite universes, both spiritual and mundane.
